Where is the statue of Queen Elizabeth, which at one time adorned the doorway of the milliner's shop in North Parade and is shown in the various drawings and engravings of the 18th and early 19th centuries.—X. Y. Z., Bath.

==Replies==

This was at 5, North Parade, in a niche between the windows of the first floor. It did not "adorn the doorway," neither was there a shop window. For many years the house, according to the Bath Directory, was occupied by Mrs. Maria Hurley, dress and mantle maker. The statue was removed while the house was owned by Mr. James Williams, the City Inspector of Gas Meters. At that time he resided at Bladud Villa, Entry Hill. Possibly Queen Elizabeth's statue might be found there.—E.L., Bath.

I am very grateful to E. L. for his note on the above, and from further enquiries I am given to understand that is possible that the statue, with others at Bladud Villa, was given to a Bath postman, who removed them to his garden in Bathwick. I do not yet know if Queen Elizabeth figured among them. —X. Y. Z., Bath.
